Best Practices for New Parsec Users on Fox Entertainment Projects

Onboarding:

For new users joining Fox Entertainment Parsec machines consider the following when requesting new users be added.

(Please note that additional Parsec seats/users are subject to Fox Entertainment approval for both Marketing and Production.)

  • In order to access Fox Entertainment resources we have to create a user account that includes Active Directory. This can take a full 24 hours and sometimes 48 hours depending on when the request is made. Consider this, if you request someone on a Friday they most likely will not get active until Monday evening or Tuesday.
  • When creating a new user account the user will receive an email and instructions from OKTA and must be activated within 7 business days. Any longer and your account will be suspended. Please register with OKTA asap.
    • Returning users that have not logged in for 90 days may have suspended accounts and need to get reactivated. This will also require 24 to 48 hours to get resolved.
  • When registering make sure you have downloaded the OKTA Verify app on your phone from the app store or Google Play before you go through the registration process.
  • You will receive a welcome and onboarding email from Parsec with instructions for accessing Parsec resources. If you have NOT already registered with OKTA then you cannot get into Parsec.
  • Parsec resources will become available once your AD (Active Directory) Account has been established in OKTA and you have been assigned a machine. Fox Entertainment support will reach out when available with a time for a walk through over zoom with your assigned machine.
  • If you are sharing machines you must log out of your session for the next person in line to access the machine.

Technical support:

  • Please use Google Chrome and if possible make it your primary browser in the settings.
  • For best performance use ONLY an established ethernet connection. If you have wifi and ethernet make sure your ethernet has priority or turn off the wifi.
  • If there are any Firewall restrictions from your IT department that prohibit access to Parsec we will need them to be lifted.
  • ZOOM, it is required that ZOOM screen sharing is enabled on the machine you will be accessing Parsec from. If your IT department has that disabled please have them allow access on the machine you will be using. Please have this done ahead of any scheduled onboarding walk through. This also helps us troubleshoot issues that may come up. Again ZOOM and the ability to screen share is REQUIRED.
  • Use your designated Slack channel for any Help related issues or support needs.
  • Sometimes when problems come up during your edit session or upon log in, the best first step is to restart the PC, that is restart of the PC that you are logged into through Parsec.
  • While Fox Entertainment has a robust support staff they are not available 24/7. Please note that there may be a cost incurred for after hours or weekend support. If we are notified ahead of time we can schedule support members to be available during off hours or weekends for an additional cost.

Offboarding:

  • Please inform us immediately when users will be wrapping on projects so we can offboard them in a timely fashion. Thank you.
